5 ways to keep your team's board tidy
A clean board is a productive board. Here are simple habits to keep tasks moving from to-do to done.
A cluttered board hides the work that matters. These five habits keep your team's board readable at a glance and moving in the right direction.
1. Write tasks as outcomes
Prefer "Publish October newsletter" over "Newsletter." A clear outcome tells anyone on the team what done looks like without asking.
2. One owner per task
Shared responsibility often means no responsibility. Assign a single owner so it's always clear who's driving a task forward, even if others help.
3. Close the loop quickly
Move tasks to done as soon as they're finished. A board that reflects reality builds trust — and gives everyone the satisfaction of visible progress.
4. Groom the backlog weekly
Spend ten minutes each week archiving stale tasks, merging duplicates, and re-prioritizing. Small, regular cleanups beat rare, overwhelming ones.
5. Use due dates honestly
Only add a due date when it's real. When dates mean something, reminders and priorities stay meaningful instead of becoming background noise.
